The March Toward Absolutism

Filed under: Persecution — Tim @ 12:05 pm

Connecticut legislators are attempting to control the internal structure of churches.

Very interesting to note that the drafters of the bill are two active pro-homosexual marriage campaigners.

There seems to be confidence that this bill will be defeated. Perhaps so. But it’s astonishing that any lawmaker could come up with it. It reflects a mindset, and it represents an attitude that is apparently impervious to resistance. The bills that get voted down today tend to be normalized and brought back later. Even if this bill fails, mark my words – this will not be over.

Religious Greeting Banned in Cornwall, ON Post Office

Filed under: Liberty — Tim @ 10:03 pm

Postal employees are forbidden to say Merci, Seigneur, pour la belle journee (“Thank you, Lord, for the beautiful day”).

On what grounds?

It is “inserting religion into the workplace.”

Oh, and since when is that illegal, or inappropriate to the workplace? My faith is the source of the whole shape of my life; how can I help but “insert religion into the workplace”? It’s not like saying this phrase is proselytizing on company time; it’s simply that someone chose to be offended.

Not a good omen, considering that Canada Post is a Crown corporation.

Medical Reports: “The Pill” Contributing to Male Infertility, Hermaphrodism

Reports are showing that pollution derived from “the pill” is contributing to a spectrum of problems such as male infertility and higher instances of hermaphrodism, as well as endangerment to fish.

It seems that environmental groups for once have been largely silent on the latter issue.

Let Your Voice Be Heard with Canadian Gov’t

Please take part in this public consultation by Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance.

The survey lists five suggested areas of “economic stimulus” that you are supposed to rank, and also offers a sixth option, where you will be allowed to suggest your own priority on the form’s next page.

What I did was make my own priority #1, then listed the rest in the order of what I felt were most legitimate/least threatening to long term stability, and the least redistributive. The substance of my #1, of course, was that the government not attempt to artificially stimulate the economy, as every effort to do so requires moving assets (in the form of taxes etc) from society as a whole, or from more productive sectors, in particular, to those which are least efficient and represent the most drain on the economy.

I then ranked the others like this:

It was actually my first article idea for the site, and now I’ve completed it: “Life First of All: Why Defense of Life Should Be the Touchstone of Activism.” I thought it to be a suitable article to introduce on Christmas Day.

As always, both HTML and PDF versions are available.
